Orchids
Belgian alt-R&B electronic artist MEYY unveils slow-burning, futuristic exploration of lust ‘Orchids’.
Following in the footsteps of her February single ‘Famous’, MEYY continues exploring minimalistic electronic production, a new direction from the bedroom R&B of 2020’s ‘Spectrum’ EP, the project that earned her the Red Bull Elektropedia Award for Most Promising Artist of 2021. On ‘Orchids’, MEYY paints a bare digital landscape, setting the stage for her free-flowing cadence and sensual, whisper-close vocals to evoke visceral images of lust. After a soft-spoken introduction starts the anticipation, the music builds to a climax in clever illustration of the lyrics.
A singer, dancer, and producer who divides her time between Brussels and London, MEYY’s study of robotics engineering spills over into her production technique, using artfully processed vocals and near-ambient sounds to create texture, space and drive in the arrangement. MEYY’s subtle, enveloping sound shows a strong command of her creativity and aesthetic vision which will no doubt deliver many more great things to come.
