Sorry I'm Late
Rising Nigerian vocalist BUJU arrives with his debut project, ‘Sorry I’m Late’, a 7-track EP out now via EMPIRE. Still early on in his musical journey, this personal yet diverse EP gives us an insight into BUJU’s multi-layered personality as we get to know him more, track by track. Inspired by a heated voice note from a disheartened fan chasing new music, ‘Sorry I’m Late’ is an apology to his supporters for keeping them waiting longer than he intended.
Throughout the EP - which spans just under twenty minutes - BUJU works with a range of in-demand producers including; Timi Jay, Rexxie, Denzl, Steph and Perlz. The project is universally relatable covering themes of self-worth, perseverance, love, and introduces us to one of Africa's most promising voices. A turbulent journey to this point, this year, the 23-year-old vocalist found himself on two breakout collaborations with Nigerian heavyweights including ‘Mood’ with WizKid and ‘Feeling’ alongside rapper LADIPOE. ‘Feeling’ broke records racking up over 80M streams in addition to being the first song in Nigeria to go to No.1 on YouTube without a video.
Prior to this, BUJU entered the scene in 2018 with ‘A Day In Lagos’ then became best known for viral hits ‘Spiritual’ and ‘L’enu’ which put him on the map thanks to his unearthly voice and poignant lyrics and was later remixed with the African Giant; Burna Boy. BUJU now celebrates getting to the point in life when he is no longer tied down by a label and has his future back in his own hands, the world is his oyster to explore. So far in his journey, he has worked with the likes of Zlatan and Burna Boy, but as a solo artist, he is truly starting to push things forward with his fiercely individual sound.
BUJU’s most striking instrument is his voice which transports and transfixes you, making you forget reality and confirming why he’s a young prodigy in the making.
