Slowly

Olivia Dean is a special talent; blessing us with the devastatingly dazzling ‘Slowly’.

Olivia has enticed audiences with her 2021 singles, having released the empowering ‘Be My Own Boyfriend’ and the sun kissed ‘Dy-Na-Mi-Tee’ in the past six months. This new offering is the most lyrically focused, and illustrates Olivia’s immense maturity and emotional potency.

A back-to-basics instrumental; soft, delicate piano chords are sprinkled in reverb, joined by a daunting synth melody for the hook. It’s clear the onus is completely on Olivia’s stunning voice - and stun it does.

The lyricism is personal and wistful, as the singer songwriter explains how she struggles to open up and let her lover in. Olivia admits she finds it ‘hard to be soft’, and reasons with the song’s subject to ‘stop saying I’m perfect’. A compelling and absorbing take on the bond and relationship between two lovers, there is a real authenticity to the narration, despite it being such a familiar theme.

Sometimes you just can’t beat a well written ballad. I can’t wait for Olivia’s upcoming project, ‘Growth’.
