Eyez - One Mic Freestyle
Derby’s devout emcee Eyez brings us a new instalment of GRM Daily’s One Mic Freestyle with an undeniably conscious seizing entry.
Holding down the abundant, yet overlooked music scene within the Midland’s industrial hot-bed; Eyez has been putting in absolute work throughout his journey behind the mic with a legendary set of offerings behind him: from his numerous SPITFIRE entries over on JDZ Media, his part in the iconic Midlands vs London cypher (that ‘I’ve only got normal shoes on’ bar courtesy of Mez gets me every time) and lets not forget his cameo on Grime Report’s classic ‘The Five Pound Munch’ series - the man is a grime icon.
Stepping to the Mic, Eyez coasts atop a pensive Bigzy banger for this one; seeing the mc spit bar after bar across the soft harmonies cascading throughout, as a choppy sequence of hi-hats and pungent bass carries out along side. Throughout the track, Eyez offers nothing but realness; bringing that renowned pen smithery to the forefront as he only knows, delivering bars such as; ‘never had a lot, had to stretch both the sleeves on my arms/see I’m the ace of the pack, you’re the four of hearts’ and of course that silky smooth chain ensuing the ‘we been millions of metres apart’ bar - bringing a soulful switch-up on the seamless listening experience mixed by Derby’s goat’d engineer Ted Loco.
‘What is wrong with people do you not have ears?! Should have blown years ago’ says one listener, followed by ‘I see a Daily Duppy around the corner!’ from another member of his die-hard audience - and to be honest, I don’t see any lies; the man is more than worthy of all the acknowledgment, if not more, he’s been graced with over the years in the game. So go take in the fresh entry from Derby’s poster-boy and run up those numbers!
