Hole In One
Homerton’s Sensei reunites with fellow 98s collective member Billy Billions on their fresh offering ‘Hole In One’, seeing a slight switch up from the East Londoner’s usual ‘devilish’ drill soundscape.
Drill’s very own Deadpool seems to be slowly but surely making his way into a more mainstream-friendly sound, tangible within offerings such as; ‘Hello Hi’, ‘Gasoline’ and ‘Taco’ - but don’t get it twisted the man is still evidently on badness, the subject matter is still as crud as ever, it just happens to be wrapped up in a bit of a more palatable package for the radio heads and you’ve got to respect it.
‘Hole In One’ see’s a 98s link up between two front runners jumping on an airy Morts instrumental, riddled with a repetitive sequence of whimsical keys and cherubic bells setting the perfect foundation for vocalist Billy Billions - although, it just wouldn’t feel right if V9 hopped on an instrumental lacking those drill infused hi-hat patterns and a couple gritty 808 slides.
V9 links up with Yukki to capture this one, depicting the two tapping into their inner Tiger Woods striking a few 9 irons and racing around across the green in their caddy. Continuing to stick to the narrative, Yukki assigns the two a new role working behind the counter at a doughnut shop, working under their stressed boss, and online personality Lippy. The video pays homage to 90’s television, seeing a tie between classics such as ‘Happy Gilmore’ and a personal favourite of mine back in the day ‘Kenan & Kel’ - sadly there was no reference to orange soda in site though.
With yet another strong entry from East London’s masked anti-hero, V9 continues the streak throughout 2021 following his 808-heavy ‘Do It’, and further establishes his desire to step out of the box and transcend the label of ‘just a drill artist’. Run up the audio for the Sensei and go take in those visuals, the link should be somewhere around here.
