Brighton newcomer Bert premieres subtle, striking and sentimental new track ’44 Save All’, the first taster from his debut EP ‘It’s all gd, dw’.
The multi-instrumentalist, who recently joined the ranks of underground-championing label Well Overdue, is the apotheosis of the modern, forward thinking musician. Drawing on a plethora of sound, style and emotion, Bert writes with assured, expressive and introspective nuance, accompanied by a vocal palette brimming with laidback charisma.
Thoughtful and darkly humorous, ’44 Save All’ is the first release since an lamentable encounter for Bert, which saw him assaulted and mugged at knife point earlier in the year. Bert’s ability to narrate his own shocking and unsettling incident shows both mental and musical maturity, and the way in which he captures the incident in such a coyly charming manner is impressive. With wistfully naturalistic instrumentation and colour-laden production, Bert glides his way across the instrumental, winding down with candid confidence, a empathetic and engaging storyteller.
