Duchess

The all singing, all dancing 00ab is back with his charming flair, dropping playful visuals for single ‘Duchess’.

‘Duchess’ is AB’s debut collaborative track with Prettyboyface, alongside the wizard Backstrapbeats on the keys. First of all, let’s just take a moment to appreciate the production on Backstrap’s behalf. So, the flutes. The flutes on this track are the definition of whimsical – got me feeling like I’m in a game of Zelda or something. Like I said, the guy is a wizard. With Backstrap setting the foundation, 00ab comes in and lays down a bouncy hook along side some airy adlibs, sealing the harmonious vibe beside the instrumental. 

Ab soon gets to the topic of discussion: his encounter with a Duchess. He swiftly passes the baton to Face with a transition so clean it could have given Usain and Yohan a run for their money back in 2012. PrettyBoy then goes on to declare his presence with that notorious ‘It’s Face, It’s Face, It’s Faaaaaace’ tag - one of the coldest stamps I’ve heard in a minute. With Face now taking the lead, he rides the track with a punchy flow and distinct pitch throughout, that later amplifies the hard-hitting “if I’m not the topic of discussion it’s irrelevant” bar, that’s further personified by his delivery, falling on the repetitive bass kicked in. 

The chemistry between the three is evident throughout the track, but solidified within the light-hearted video courtesy of lunasroom – framing the collective gallivanting through the streets of South London with the use of a rotating fish eye and night vision camcorder in true underground fashion. Luis adds the finishing touches to the visuals: manipulating frames, contorting the faces of AB and Face as well as introducing a green screen to seal the care-free ambience. 

With such a positively infectious tune, there was no surprise when I discovered they had more content locked in the vault. Keep an eye out for any projects dropping in the near future, but for now run up the views on ‘Duchess’!
