After Leaves Bleed Red
Seasons change and memories fade, but ETRNL’s new EP ‘After Leaves Bleed Red’ reminds us how we can look back on better days whatever the weather.
A metaphor for winter, After Leaves Bleed Red is a sequel to Before Sun Goes Down Too Early, his 2020 debut centred around summer. The Slovakian producer dropped this new project while our warm weather picks up, hoping to emphasise the unsteady dichotomies of light/dark and life/death, especially in our memory.
Having spent the last few years perfecting his production prowess at the University of West London, ETRNL has attracted the attention of many rising stars in the UK underground. This EP hosts features from ARXIVN, Mak Ultra, Worldwide Ruckus and Jayo, all of whom ETRNL met naturally through parties and production work.
Their bars sit between other vocal additions including a sweet Sade sample and ETRNL’s first foray into singing himself. But from the glitchy ‘Last Signs’ to the ominous filters in ‘Tamed Memory’, it’s his precise arrangement and manipulation of sounds that shines through.
After Leaves Bleed Red is a fluid EP that traverses moods and emotions, using extended intros and outros to help tracks flow. Though predominantly rich in longing and nostalgia, tracks like ‘Erykah’ and ‘No Other Way’ point to those days where sunrays split the clouds and life gets growing.
Like the coming months, ETRNL’s future looks bright. Check out his sophomore project and keep an eye open for more laid-back loops to come.
