18 & Over
Since serenading into the scene in early 2020, the multi-faceted Nia Archives has gone from strength to strength. An immersive, intriguing and incredibly individualistic artist, Nia’s continuous sonic evolution is showcased in abundance on bouncy new cut ’18 & Over’, taken from her upcoming sophomore EP ‘Forbidden Feelingz’.
The R&B singer meets UKG and DnB DJ unveiled a vibrant and eclectic assortment of songs for her ‘Headz Gone West’ EP, and has since began augmenting her status within the rave and alternative scenes. A remix of Lava La Rue’s ‘Magpie’ was followed by the immensely impressive single ‘Forbidden Feelings’, a generational cut that transcended style with cohesive acumen and downright cheek. Nia shows no sign of slowing down though; continuing to push boundaries and question what it means to be an upcoming artist.
The visual and sonic experience of ’18 & Over’ pays ode to Nia’s Jamician heritage, with the song sampling the classic reggae cut by Cocoa Tea, ‘Young Love’, and the Taliable directed video referencing 60s and 70s Jamaican Yardie cinema. Nia uses her ethereal vocals as an instrumental apparatus, layering her voice amongst choppy breakbeats, glistening synths and booming bass in a nuanced representation of texture. The charming tune oozes Nia’s usual DIY aesthetic and energetic, feel good timbre.
A self-described melting pot of distinctive sounds and styles, Nia Archives newest single cements her as one of the most avant garde and engaging artists in the UK right now.
