Future Bubblers Year 8
The Future Bubblers team are excited to announce the opening of next years application process. Taking place between Thursday 18th August – Friday 16th September, the Gilles Peterson-backed talent discovery and artist development scheme opens their doors to any unsigned artists in England to apply. Supported by Arts Council England, the aim is to develop talent with roots in underground, left-field and alternative music.
Each year the artists will be paired with a supportive industry mentor who is tailored to their individual needs and from there, the journey begins. Each Bubbler will receive a number of opportunities that will ideally set them up professionally. The venture offers; one-to-one production workshops from music software company, Ableton, performances at live Future Bubblers showcases, recording live sessions from the iconic Brownswood basement, professional press shots and beyond the year, long-term support throughout their career.
Previous years’ candidates include Nottingham grime MC Snowy; soulful, stripped back vocalist Yazmin Lacey; Hull’s sample-heavy experimenter Revenu, and the stark, rhythmic incursions of producer Kayla Painter. Current & past participants of Future Bubblers have achieved notable successes. Yazmin Lacey has been profiled in The Observer, performed on COLORS Berlin, had her own UK tour, and signed a record deal with independent label First Word. Kayla Painter has been profiled in CRACK Magazine and had her new single supported on Amazing Radio, Bandcamp and BBC Introducing. Skinny Pelembe has signed to Brownswood, had his new single supported heavily on 6 Music. Not forgetting Forest Law who was signed to Brownswood where he recently released his debut EP.
This summer The Future Bubblers hosted their own stage at Brighton’s The Great Escape festival which saw performances from previous Bubblers Neone The Wonderer, Madi Saskia, Plumm and more. As they continue to strengthen their cultural relevance, their third and most recent collaboration with Tommy Jeans marked an All-star showcase; headlined by Dreya Mac, A.G and Odeal at Tommy Hilfiger’s London flagship store.
Submissions for new candidates are open from Thursday 18th August – Friday 16th September. Prospective candidates can enter their submission by heading to futurebubblers.com.
