Where Did I Go
A startling crusade through sonic exploration and emotional resonance, the combination of Yaatri’s soothing instrumentation and B-awhe’s celestial vocals on ‘Where Did I Go’ is not one to be missed.
The exciting five-piece formed in Leeds in 2018, and have since gone on to impress critics with their fluid and opaque approach to composition, drawing on elements of jazz, art rock, classical and more. Following the beguiling ‘Gold’ and the cinematic double-sided ‘In The Clouds’, ‘Where Did I Go’ is the third cut from the bands upcoming debut LP ‘Lucid’.
Clocking in at over 6 and a half minutes, the band take their listener on a musical journey that is intensely complex and spellbindingly surrealist. Driven by the influence of Indian Classical music and the soaringly grounded beauty of B-ahwe’s mesmeric voice, this subtle masterpiece is intrinsically gracious and hypnotically delicate, with the luscious texture of bandleader Liam Detar’s instrumental palettes the perfect backdrop for the singer’s haunting melodies.
With breathtakingly rich and rhythmically unique soundscapes, Yaatri are one of the most exciting new wave jazz acts that I’ve come across this year. This is certainly one for the music fans!
