Vulnerability Is The New Cool

Shocka is redefining what it means to be cool with his game-changing album, Vulnerability Is The New Cool. A fusion of conscious rap and pop, the project dives headfirst into mental health, breaking stigmas, and showing that strength comes from being real.

The album spans 16 tracks, created over four years with producer Otis. Inspired by alarming statistics—Black men are disproportionately affected by mental health issues, including a high rate of sectioning and suicide—Shocka wanted to make a difference. “I thought, ‘How can I decrease that number by just 1 percent?’ Vulnerability helped me, and I thought, if I can express that through music, maybe people will feel comfortable expressing themselves too.”

Standout tracks include “Good Time,” a breezy anthem for finding life balance, and “My War”, which features Liam Bailey’s soulful vocals and tackles the heavy topic of being sectioned. “Fighting My Vices” delivers a raw confession about addiction, while “Unite” shifts gears with an electrifying drum and bass vibe.

Shocka’s sound, which he calls “conscious pop,” blends emotional storytelling with big, catchy hooks. Drawing from hip-hop icons like Kendrick Lamar, J Cole, Nas, and 2Pac, his music also carries the influence of UK legends Heartless Crew and Kano. Hailing from Tottenham’s Broadwater Farm, his upbringing plays a big role in his artistry, adding authenticity to his message.

With two mental health awards under his belt, including Best Storyteller, Shocka’s mission goes beyond music—he’s here to save lives. “I never know whose life I’m saving with a song,” he shares.

Vulnerability Is The New Cool isn’t just an album—it’s a call to action. Shocka reminds us all that being vulnerable is a strength, and this album is proof that music really can change lives.
