VAT
Gotti Major hits us with a powerful drill banger on ‘VAT’ – the ominous new single from the gifted emcee.
The track carries on the young rapper’s recipe of firing off hard bars with an unrivalled infectious energy. Alongside gloomy, psychedelic visuals, he pays homage to the streets he grew up on, shown in the music video.
His sense of humour is in full force, with lines like ‘I heard that boy was a snitch, on my block we chase that like quidditch’, and ‘you can’t take man for no nincompoop’ - from other rappers, these lines might appear corny, but Gotti spits them with complete confidence and charm that you cannot help but smile.
The instrumental is layered with lush, trickling synths and hi-hats that rattle away alongside calm brass sounds, drifting into the background. The track sees Gotti Major switch up his old sound for a more lucid, dreamy beat, which is not all that stereotypical for a drill instrumental. Whilst still nocturnal, the beat is almost gentle, which provides perfect balance for his in-your-face, intimidating delivery.
Gotti is on a hot streak following the success of his mixtape ‘Fifth Exit’ in 2020, and with life hopefully returning to normal soon, and venues opening, the Hackney spitter’s future can only be more promising.
