Track of the Week: Deserve It

R&B doesn’t get much silkier than Deserve It, our introduction into the artistic hemisphere of vocal powerhouse Mariella.

Finding a dreamlike balance between purpose and grace, Mariella is a dazzling new starlet emerging from the depths of the R&B underground. Inspired by a range of strong female voices, ranging from Lianne La Havas to Jorja Smith, Mariella has found her sonic sweet spot and has so far flaunted it at every given opportunity. Having recently featured on House duo Dusky’s latest LP, Mariella has proceeded to unveil her ethereal debut cut, Deserve It, an atmospheric, soul-infused jam that highlights a revered songwriting acumen and a nuance for establishing mood. 

Atop the murky, broody musical backdrop Mariella serenades and swoons, spinning a story of spiralling doubt that is countered by her tenacious character, as she questions whether the subject of the tale deserves her love and affection. It’s a confident and noteworthy debut effort, and sets a market for more sultry goodness from the exciting newcomer.
