Touching Bass presents: anaiis
Touching Bass created an intimate setting for fans to take in the spellbinding vocals of singer-songwriter anaiis at the Barbican. The event was a harmonious blend of captivating soundscapes, artist collaborations and a flawlessly tuned band.
The evening began with Astrønne whose angelic vocals set pace for the night. anaiis took the reins post intermission and entranced us with her sultry, ethereal and infectious melodies.
What made this performance particularly unique was anaiis's unexpected entrance as she began the show amidst the audience, gracing us with her presence with some breath taking notes before claiming her place centre stage alongside her band.
anaiis took us on a journey of self love as she bared her soul song by song and note by note. Key moments that were truly engaging were songs “Nina” - an ode to what it means to be free and “Learn to Love” - a personal favourite as it paid homage to Bell Hooks influential book ‘All about love’ - you couldn’t help but sing along. ‘Vanishing’ was also included in the set list, which you will likely have seen her Colors performance of. It’s a delicate track that touches on overcoming dark thoughts and it’s the gentleness of the rhythm and vocals that pull you in and stimulate you into truly believing ‘it’s never too late to make your way back’. These moments showcased her ability to convey the depths of the human experience via gripping lyrics and cadence.
As if her solo songs weren’t enough she indulged us in several duets throughout her set that underpinned her ability to collaborate and harmonise effortlessly.
The auditory experience was only part of the experience as the visual component of the performance was equally enthralling. As anaiis reached her crescendo towards the end of the set, the stage came alive with smoke machines and an array of colourful flashing lights, transforming the venue into a captivating visual spectacle that perfectly complemented the entrancing sounds resonating in our ears - it was one of those “you had to be there" moments!
anaiis’s falsetto’s reverberating around the room felt celestial and sirenic and left us the audience with no option other than a standing ovation.
Touching Bass curated a night to remember at the Barbican-Milton Court, a perfect fusion of sound and visuals, leaving the audience with an unforgettable sensory experience and a profound appreciation for the artistry of anaiis and her band.
