Titanic
Earl Sweatshirt continues his streak of cutting-edge singles ahead of the release of his new LP ‘Sick!’, which drops this Friday! Titanic is the latest, following the excellent Tabula Rasa, and 2010 (where Earl Sweatshirt sounds refreshingly full of life and energy).
Interestingly, Earl swaps choppy Madlib-esque samples for a more trap flavoured instrumental, which is honestly really fulfilling to hear him over, as his delivery allows him to float over the trippy, skeletal Black Noi$e beat. Hopefully the LP throws more curveballs just like this.
Since the early days of the Odd Future collective, Earl Sweatshirt has been an exciting talent with an abstract style, that he’s only built and built on more over the past decade.
‘Sick! is his first album since the excellent ‘Some Rap Songs’, one of the most creative experimental Hip Hop records of 2018. He’s three for three with albums so far, and he’s had an even more consistent run when you consider his defining, angsty ‘EARL’ mixtape and the intense, emotional 2015 release ‘solace’.
It seems like Earl’s only slight slip up thus far was 2019’s underwhelming ‘Feet Of Clay’, but he’s back in top form as he teases one fantastic single after another in anticipation of his new record.
