Time (You and I)
Sometimes it is easy to forget about life before the lockdown in London. As each day passes, we become more and more nostalgic for 2020 BC (Before Coronavirus). We miss walking through wet and windy parks and streets, or not seeing the sun for 3 weeks. Nothing has made us feel more nostalgic for this bleak and miserable part of the year than Khruangbin’s latest music video for the funky disco-inspired ‘Time (You and I)’.
Starring British comedian Stephen K. Amos and fellow actress Lunga Anele-Skosana, the hilarious film documents the pair building sandcastles throughout rainy parts of London, giving them scores out of ten and proceeding to boogie to the song. With Khruangbin member Laura Lee on vocals, she conveys the desire to live life forever, before expressing “that’s life” in various languages during the song’s break. It’s a beautifully positive message and, whilst almost every aspect of the track was recorded pre-lockdown, it could not be more aptly timed as it brings happiness to a pretty dreary time.
‘Time (You and I)’ is clearly influenced by ‘70s disco and funk and it pays homage to the era excellently. The bass is smooth, the drums are groovy, and the message is positive. The band’s album ‘Mordechai’ is scheduled for release on June 26th, and it will be interesting to see if we see more of this sound from the group.
