The Mission
Bakar once again illustrates why he is often heralded as the future of indie music on ‘The Mission’.
One of the most engaging alternative artists to emerge out of the UK scene in the last 5 years, Bakar intertwines divergent styles with cultured refinement. Attempting to bridge the gap between musical genres, the influence of indie, rap, and punk are expertly merged into a coherent and often poignant sound.
His focused DIY 2018 mixtape ‘Badkid’ was followed by the vibrant and hit-laded 2019 EP ‘Will You Be My Yellow’, which saw his audience expand beyond the UK underground thanks to the featured appearance of industry backed singer Dominic Fike, as well as the crowd-pleasing single ‘Hell N Back’. After a period of relative silence, Bakar is back with a spectacular new effort, ‘The Mission’, which is the first glimpse into his highly anticipated debut album.
Bakar’s instantly recognisable tone is a blast of refreshing vitality, floating atop the affecting, synth-heavy instrumental. The hook is immediately memorable, destined to be chanted in arenas, nightclubs and house parties across the region. The accompanying video, directed by Jack Begert and co-written by Bakar himself, is immersive and cinematic; the ideal accompaniment for the raw and expressive track.
A true creative with a diverse and mainstream appeal, it appears only a matter of time before Bakar’s name is impossible to ignore. Festival headline slots seem imminent.
