Soul is the only word that comes to mind while Elli Ingram’s latest single pours through our headphones. With ‘Strange How Good Things Change’ Ingram croons her way through the loss that’s always paired with heart shattering love. She’s armed with a decadent production and layered vocals as she belts out her emotions as powerfully as the late Amy Winehouse and a church choir combined. 

When it comes to the subject matter, there’s a duality here, an end of a relationship and the blossoming of another with oneself. Her heart is felt in every syllable - the desire to stay and the mixed feelings that accompany the reasons for leaving. It’s funny how things work out, isn’t it? When we let go of the things that we want the most, we find ourselves in a new light surrounded by exactly what we were looking for all along.

It’s no doubt that Ingram’s voice is the star of the show but it’s not alone. Accompanied by an impressive instrumental affair - piano keys weave a path for the saxophone to parade on by. In under four minutes Ingram takes us on a ride akin to floating down a chocolate river - supple, sweet and luxurious creating the ultimate anthem for growth, self-love and exploration.
