Someone Who Knows
Dripping with unadulterated emotion and depth, Mychelle’s sophomore EP Someone Who Knows promises to entice and delight.
One year after the release of her debut EP, Hackney-born artist Mychelle perfectly encapsulates just how much an artist can develop and flourish in the space of 365 days. Whilst maintaining her unique indie-soul tone, Mychelle adopts a variety of sounds and influences to forge a different tone for each song. Her unguarded, honest lyricism remains her prevalent feature, and in this area her sophomore EP truly delivers.
Featuring two previously released singles, Someone Who Knows is an introspective compilation of songs that explore the importance of vulnerability in order to heal oneself - something that Mychelle both discovers for herself, whilst imploring the listener to reflect upon their own self.
Introspective yet uplifting, the opening single Pressure combines smooth acoustic guitar with soft piano flourishes to flawlessly cushion Mychelle’s velvety vocals, making for a meditative listening experience. Mychelle explores the trials of heartbreak in singles Promises and Lose, both of which adopt the neo-soul sound of songstresses such as India Arie and Vivian Green.
Mychelle’s soul and unparalleled talent truly shine in the other three songs of the EP. Mychelle places her lyrical genius center stage in a poignant single in which she has a candid conversation with her Younger Self, whilst she draws upon her busking roots to showcase her impeccable vocal agility in Lifeboat (Demo). However, the stand-out single of the EP has to be the atmospheric Forbidden Fruits. A collaboration with FAMM label-mate ENNY, the single perfectly meshes the balmy rap tones of ENNY with Mychelle’s dulcet vocals to create an enchanting single that soothes the soul and leaves you wanting more.
Available to listen to everywhere, you would be remiss to skip out on this indomitable artist and her latest work of art.
