Running

‘Running’ is soul star Pip Millet’s rousing new collaboration with none other than lyricist Ghetts. In Pip’s own words, the tune “is about the tiresome reality of being Black/a POC in an unequal white western world”.

Her hook laments the lack of Black freedom, with Ghetts’ verse providing a piercing description of life under the threat of a racist police force. This idea of being on the run is paralleled in their music video, where we see a Black woman fleeing the gaze of the white aristocrats in gaudy portrait paintings.

Sampling Family Connection’s ‘This Time’, the track is produced by Joice alongside Josh Crocker, a pair who have worked with other leading ladies such as Jorja Smith and Celeste.

We hope ‘Running’ signifies the chance of a new album from Pip Millett, whose eight-track effort Lost In June attracted critical acclaim last year. In the meantime, take in this powerful piece from one of Manchester’s fastest frontrunners.
