Playground
Producer/rap duo Micco and Elias affirm their sonic connection with a certified link up on the kaleidoscopic, serene and deeply personal ‘Playground’. Reminiscent of the musical relationship of Rebel Kleff and Loyle Carner, this new cut from the pair is the latest in a long line of collaborations, with the two clearly having a strong musical and personal connection. Elias’ jazz influenced hip hop instrumentals, that borrow from R&B and footwork, are an ideal platform for Micco to formulate his erudite, concise and consistent writing and dapper delivery.
On Playground, the instrumentals focus point is an eerie, echo’d synth, that combines with melodic keys, meandering bass and snappy percussion on the textured, absorbing soundscape. The incisiveness of the production is matched by the stinging delivery of Micco, who shows a cultured ear for flows and an focused writing direction, as we step into the mindset of the rapper as he discusses his life experience and thought process, and by the end of the track, we know Micco far better as a person and an artist.
Having delivered a series of solid tunes, Playground is a forceful step up in quality by two artists looking to stake their claim for wider appeal. If they keep up the work rate and keep improving, these boys could do special things.
