Park Assist
CASISDEAD returns! After a despicably long drought, the UK rap icon returns to quench the thirst of his loyal fan base, drenching us in hard hitting futurism and startling imagery with the help of household name La Roux on ‘Park Assist’.
An underground pioneer, and one of the most compelling names to ever emerge from UK rap, it has felt like an age since the enigma was last in the public eye. His 2014 album ‘The Number 23’ changed the landscape of alternative rap and grime. Brooding, sonically progressive, and at times harrowing, the rappers nihilistic attitude and vivid descriptions of taboo subjects like death and addiction shocked and necessitated listeners in equal measure. The striking figure found mainstream acclaim with his 2018 hit single ‘Pat Earrings’, but instead of building on the hype of the track, Cas disappeared into the relative shadows… until now.
There aren’t many bar-for-bar spitters in the UK better than Cas, and his wordplay is as sharp as ever on the new cut. The mystery figure takes us through a fanatical narrative with uneasy assurance; his harsh, racy delivery piercing through your eardrums like an icy dagger. The second half of the track sees La Roux take vocal control, who encapsulates the timbre of the track with a striking feature. With sprawlingly beautiful cinematography and futuristic mise-en-scene, the Black Mirror-esque video, directed by actor Ed Skrein, is the perfect accompaniment for the avant garde offering.
When I first heard’ Park Assist’, I felt bewildered, elated and exhausted. These emotions haven’t changed very much. I’d advise you to delve into one of the savviest releases of the year so far as soon as humanly possible. And don’t forget - DEADCORP Cares About You.
