Palm Wine Dreamz

Singer, songwriter, and producer, the talented multihyphenate Azekel shares his latest single Palm Wine Dreamz under Mr Eazi’s record label emPawa Africa.

The track, featuring vocalist anaiis and all-round creative Kojey Radical, dexterously explores love in its various forms. Speaking on where love meets contemporary masculinity, Azekel explains: “as men we often don’t talk openly about love.” And this idea is further enhanced by the song’s vulnerability: Palm Wine Dreamz is an open letter to both Azekel and his contemporaries. 

Recorded between London and Ghana during lockdown, the Nigerian-born east Londoner’s music has always been an extension of his personal heritage as well as a vessel for his own introspections. His genre-transcending sound is esteemed by the subtleties in his beat-making. The unembellished production really takes centre stage as his and anaiis’ vocals mesh to become almost as one. Then complementing the subdued, calming nature of the track, Kojey hosts a range of melodies to carry his own bittersweet reflections
