No Lie
It is a blessed gift to see Jesse James Solomon return so soon after his introspective, characterful and melancholy surprise drop mixtape ‘Bleak’. The tape, as well as the Sam Wise featuring ‘Haze’ and the Giggs featuring ‘Tit for Tat’, proved that Jesse is one of the brightest stars in the UK underground stratosphere. This fact is only furthered by summer anthem ‘No Lie’, released with an accompanying video. On the track, the rapper enlists the help of the engaging Jaxxon D.Silva, along with Boy Better Know affiliate Lay-Z and production by one of UK raps biggest names, Skepta.
A far more upbeat and good vibes release, Jesse brings out some interesting flows and lyricism that sound more tongue in cheek in comparison to Bleak (a project that fulfilled its name). He sounds like he is having a lot of fun here, pulling off reference packed and conversational bars with ease and poise. His nonchalant delivery and swagger raise the track to dizzy heights. Skepta’s beat offers an effective landscape for all three artists to deliver solidly, with the strong backbeat and the clavicle type piano chords creating a positive and laidback mood. Both features impress, with catchy hooks and strong performances. A song jam-packed with talent.
