Mangos

Milan Ring’s sophomore album, Mangos, is a radiant homage to summer, full of possibilities and a profound sense of lightness. Milan explores genres from alt-pop to funk, while remaining rooted in her R&B essence. The album evokes warm hues of afternoon sun and vibrant, balmy nights where love and passion flourish.

An accomplished musician, producer, engineer, and music director, Milan Ring is a pivotal figure in Australia’s R&B renaissance. She has collaborated with artists such as Questlove, DRAM, and Chance The Rapper's group, The Social Experiment. Her debut album, *I’m Feeling Hopeful* (2021), earned Best Live Act at the FBi SMAC Awards, and international praise from BBC Radio 1 and KCRW.

In Mangos, Milan embarks on a playful and introspective journey of love. The album, released on Astral People Recordings, was written, recorded, produced, and mixed by Milan herself on Gadigal Land in Sydney. The cohesiveness of the album lies in Milan's authentic self-expression, her signature guitar work, and expert production skills.

The album opens with "Quicksand," reflecting on Milan's younger self and struggles with imposter syndrome. "Sunshine," an interlude, captures the initial spark of meeting someone. The title track "Mangos" embodies a summer love affair with a raw, unchanged hook straight from a laptop recording. The track also features the Guzheng, highlighting Milan's Chinese heritage.

"River Flows" explores sensuality with cosmic R&B and funk elements, featuring South-Sudanese rapper POOKIE. "Leo," a glittery disco-funk track, celebrates astrological compatibility. "Shadows" marks a shift in the relationship with woozy guitar and tabla drums.

*Mangos* is a cathartic return for Milan Ring, showcasing her multifaceted artistry. The album blends genres and profound lyrics, reaffirming that everyone deserves to cultivate love with others and themselves, embracing vulnerability and allowing life to unfold naturally.
