love + war

Multi-instrumentalist and composer cktrl has returned with two singles of his forthcoming EP: yield & love +war. With his artistic drive being to reimagine what we currently in the public consciousness regard as “classical music”, the British musician is consistently tugging at the constraints of the genre, weaving in his own intricate arrangements to ameliorate his transcendental contemporary Black British sound.

After his previous more experimental releases, love + war, specifically, marks a return to traditional orchestration. Featuring a gorgeous guest vocalist, Ophie, her distant, airy vocals layer so exquisitely above ckrtl’s trademark saxophone.  With the emotive nature of the single echoed in its jazz elements, the track a delicate exploration into the ideas of loss and heartbreak. The raw emotion permeating from each entrancing melody.

With the EP promising greater intentional instrumentation, we can expect the same beautiful introspections but with a greater focus on musicianship.
