With tranquil rhythms and an inescapable positive energy, Palmaria are back.

The Italian duo, based in London, are repeatedly showcasing their effortless talent when it comes to classic song writing. Their previous single ‘Saudade’ carried an understated, yet whimsical charm. Yet, their new single ‘Lluvia’ juxtaposes this with a fresh, up-tempo summer style that is bound to make people move. ‘Lluvia’, meaning ‘rain’ in Spanish, is not only brimming with funky guitar leads and driving drums, but also technical precision. The stuttered muted guitars and wispy vocal harmonies make the song sound full and luxurious. Lyrically, the song focusses on reinvention and patience with the infectious hook “tear it down to make it better”. The soothing field recordings and atmosphere of the song complement this positive outlook, contrasting the usual negative associations with rain itself which is a nice touch.

I said it with Saudade, and I will say it again. Palmaria are making leaps and bounds in the hypnagogic pop scene. Through unique instrumentation and beautiful song structures that beam with creativity, they will continue to rise above the relatively oversaturated noise of pop music today.
