Kokoro

Two worlds of influence are combined in David Kofi’s latest release. One influence is drawn from the title of the project, ‘Kokoro’ - a Japanese word that translates to heart, soul and mind, which are three things that are very present in this two track offering. The other influence comes from jazz. 

The first song from this project titled ‘Tsuro’ is a melting pot of jazz derived sounds infused with sounds you’d traditionally hear in Japanese music. The blend of both worlds creates a carefully balanced track that is reminiscent of the twenty four hour lo-fi beat videos looping in the musical library of YouTube. The differentiation comes from the sophisticated nature and clarity of the instruments that work together to create a cascade of sounds that serenade the listener. 

The second song is titled ‘Shinko’ meaning new and old. The piano plays a central role, creating an elaborate foundation for the other instruments to build upon. The carefully curated cast includes James Mollison on the saxophone, which adds a supple layer to the sound. While exciting, the release is more soothing than anything, providing a sonic home for listeners to curl up inside.
