Grandma's Place

Grandma’s Place is beautifully crafted with jazz production made up of a guitar rift, bass and saxophone that immediately eases the tension in your shoulders and sets you at ease reminding you of your own hidden memories where you would visit Grandma’s place.

The track is nostalgic and the spoken word poet Jah Digga’s tone holds nothing but warmth as he paints a vivid picture of his grandmother’s home and the importance of familiar ties in the Afro-Caribbean communities that’s helped with the visuals that accompany the track.

The message of the video is clear as we see images of a mother plaiting her daughters hair, the whole family coming over for Sunday dinner, dominos being played in a room and the house full of the whole family. Family is essential in knowing who you are, and understanding your culture.

Joining Jah Digga on the track is London rapper Ghetts who lifts Jah Digga energy to the next level and the talented soul singer Georgia Copeland who sings the chorus.

He comments:

“Working with Ghetts, who is a pioneer of grime music, was an honour. Getting his respect and advice and collaborating together proves I haven’t been wasting my time for all these years. There’s no better sign of appreciation.

Everyone has that same feeling of going to their grandma’s house when they were little. I wanted to capture that energy. It’s important to me to write songs about the everyday, the little things that are important in my life and in my community. How it feels to be a dad, an uncle, a brother, a son, a grandson and how this changes you as a person.”
