Dream In Colour
Maryland Rapper Cordae is back, teasing us with a new collection of songs as we eagerly anticipate his new LP. The brightest of the bunch might just be ‘Dream In Color’, which is accompanied by a stunning, summery music video.
Formerly YBN Cordae, the 23-year-old emcee, rose to fame after a remix of J Cole’s ‘1985’, and since then he has proved to be one of the brightest young stars in the game with relatable bars and catchy wordplay.
The track centres around his surprising relationship with professional tennis player Naomi Osaka. ‘My girl would forfeit a tennis match to meet my grandmama, man, she truly a keeper’, he claims.
The song is vibrant, heartfelt and personal. You can hear the influence of experienced veterans like Kanye West, Talib Kweli and even the late Mac Miller with Cordae’s soulful, uplifting delivery.
With its central theme of self-confidence, it is a very hopeful tune. Fittingly, Cordae shows off his vocal ability on the gorgeous chorus, an unexpected talent from the rising artist. With any luck, his new album will follow in the same footsteps and provide us with some much needed optimism.
