Don't Be An Opp
Miles From Kinshasa makes his return to the scene with a vibrant and playful new number ‘Don’t Be An Opp’, featuring long time friend and collaborator Kadiata.
Miles is an artist who has become impossible to overlook over the past couple of years. Having dropped his debut body work back in 2017, 2020 felt like Miles true rise to a hotly tipped artist thanks to his superb sophomore project ‘Beloved’, which featured hits like ‘Wearing Smiles’, as well as the Murkage Dave collaboration ‘Motionz’. Now, back with his first offering of 2021, it’s clear that Miles has plenty more to give with this charismatic and charming offering.
Miles’ blend of sunny R&B and experimental pop is fully realised on the new cut, with cascading synths, busy production and vibrant mixing the perfect foundation for the singer/songwriter’s mellow, effortless delivery. Kadiata steps up to take the production reigns, as well as dropping a silk-laden verse. The track is accompanied by an equally fun, tongue-in-cheeky music video directed by Ricky Gibb.
Speaking on the track, Miles offered:
Don’t Be An Opp is a song I wrote during lockdown, at the time I was longing for some time away with some company just to have a good time. Time was feeling very bleak and uncertain and honestly I just needed some sun, so I just put it in a song instead of a Ryanair flight! It’s very tongue in cheek and carefree, coming off the back of my last project I just wanted to come back with something fresh but still very idiosyncratically Miles from Kinshasa. Kadiata produced the song and it was only right he dropped a classic verse. I feel like we were moving Andy Cole & Dwight Yorke on this one, we’re very in-sync, it’s a nice moment."
Unique, diverse and deeply compelling, let’s hope to hear more of Miles in the second half of 2021.
