Dear Diary
One thing I love about R&B is how relatable it is. Artists across the world find ways to bring experiences we can all relate to and weave them into BPM, hitting us with emotions, wisdom and understanding. NIA is one of these artists, who embraces situations she experiences and shares the tea with us over a range of different backdrops.
She has finally delivers what she calls “the whirlwinds of pre and post Covid Dating” her first EP Dear Diary - “This year I promised myself that I will come out of my shell. I will pour myself into the past, present and future, using my music as a vessel to heal, shed tears, love and remember..” stated NIA when she announced the EP on her Instagram. She even tattooed in on the cover art to make sure everyone listening gets the message.
Having the pleasure to attend her intimate listening party in Brick Lane, East London, I was one of the lucky few that got to listen to the EP beforehand and to be surrounded by women who were visibly moved by the lyrics, often nodding their head in agreement when hearing lyrics that they can relate often. For example, when the bridge of Beggin came and NIA belts out - “You missing how I called your name, you missing how my love made you feel insane. You say you wanna try it again, got you in your feels boy that’s still the same… forever in my heart, but I don’t miss you..” some ladies in the room started clicking their fingers, clearly indicating they are or have been in this scenario.
Dear Diary from start to bottom helps me understand what she and other women may want to say in certain situations that arises when dating and a couple that I undoubtedly been involved in.
Definitely a project for all genders as it embodies sexuality, femininity, sensitivity, strength and I could really go on.. basically if you like R&B and want to get a taste of the next wave coming out of London, indulge yourself with some NIA.
