Couple Bucks
Quite frankly, Franky Bones is probably one of the most soulful musicians to grace 2021; bringing us the visuals to his soul-touching offering in ‘Couple Bucks’ coming straight from his highly-anticipated debut EP ‘Casa Saudade’.
Hailing from the Nottingham with heritage rooted within the Piazza Armerina, Sicily; this mind-blowing multi-instrumentalist, singer, rapper AND producer is slowly but surely putting Notts on the map with his genre-fusing soundscape that derives from the talent’s ability to bounce between numerous sonic dimensions - taking influence from a plethora; consisting of Jazz, Neo-soul, Psych and Hip-Hop just to name a few. With the likes of absolute G.O.A.T.s such as J Dilla and THE SUPER VILLAIN (DOOM) himself vividly playing a seamless inspiration throughout the 22 year-old’s creative process with that undeniably smooth swing he’s assigned to his percussive approach; bringing a natural touch to an industry dominated by robotic soundscapes.
Now lets just say for ‘Couple Bucks’ Franky went absolutely crazy on this one; brining a complete body-chilling experience with that soothing swing within those drums, alongside those enchanting strings twanging throughout the ether - and let me not forget to mention not one, not two, but ALL of the instruments riddled within this seamless soundscape were played by the talent him very self; a true visionary to say the least.
However, if the sound itself that could comfortably sit within any avant-garde café playlist getting a Shazam wasn’t enough to captivate you, the melodies Franky provides send this number to another planet; brining an element of honest confession wrapped up in a transcendent vocal veil that’s sure to set those goosebumps off. The hook in fact is absolutely captivating with the manner in which Franky delivers particular lines such as; ‘back it up, can we back it up, I…/it’s hard to see the light, when all the skies are grey’ - the execution this man offers is on another level; bringing the evidence to back the hype behind his ever-growing audience.
Franky links up with the visionaries over at TRASH, an insanely talented group run by women, bringing captivating film to the world, to bring us the mesmerising visuals for ‘Couple Bucks’. The video sees Franky rocking up to a dimly lit jazz-café kind of vibe in a pair of sb dunks, baggy denims and a worn in skateboard before sitting down and reciting the head-swaying initial verse at a table to himself. Heading into the second hook he takes to the stage with his backing-band to put on a show for a crowd hosted within the warm setting, all before being left a ‘couple bucks’ by one listener as thanks to the performance.
Brining us a glimpse into what the talent has to offer, ‘Couple Bucks’ is an immaculate representation of the singer/songwriter’s potential flair he can bring to the industry - and if you’re anything like myself, I’m sure you’re just itching to see what else the man has in the vault. Less of me chatting though; make sure you take in Franky’s number and check out those gorgeous visuals too!
