Berlin 1
South London singer, songwriter and guitarist, Oscar Jerome releases his new single/video Berlin 1 alongside the announcement of his forthcoming album, The Spoon, out 23rd September. Representing a change in his creative approach, Berlin 1 is a warp of artistic melancholy, driven by Oscar’s distorted vocals and pristine instrumentation highlighting his usual attention to detail. Offering us full transparency, the 30-year-old’s poetic words translate into an intimate performance sharing introspective thoughts amongst a tale of heartbreak. The Antoine Thomas Sturge-directed video gives us a glimpse into one of many different characters portrayed by Oscar throughout the project.
Speaking on the track he said:
Oscar initiated his album campaign with his recent single, Sweet Isolation which was premiered by BBC Radio 6 DJ, Mary Anne Hobbs and was applauded by the likes of The Times, Clash, The Line Of Best Fit and COLORS. The single was then followed up with a stand out orchestral version with Jazz royalty and Grammy-winning Metropole Orkest. More recently, he performed to a sold-out headline show at Peckham Audio before announcing his UK/EU tour across November and December - which includes performances in Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, Bristol, London, Paris and Rotterdam - spanning over two weeks. The forthcoming album see’s Oscar portray multifaceted characters who are shaped by society but seem like they are always on the precipice to move toward something new. With the London Jazz scene at an all time high with an abundance of artists such as; Ezra Collective, Emma Jean Thackery, Nubya Garcia and Alfa Mist, Oscar is hoping to make his own individual mark. With his attention firmly locked onto the album coming in September, Berlin 1 is the next step in Oscar’s formula to reaching a new level of his musical legacy.
