Nigerian-based R&B singer Arya Starr is on her way to becoming the country’s biggest superstar. She recently had a successful release of her EP titled ‘Ayra Starr’.

A cohesive body of work showcasing the singer's versatile nature, in 2021 it’s rare to come across a body of work that contains a timeless record. In Ayra Starr’s case, her entire project was timeless, tapping deep into her soul to produce music we can all resonate with. She touches on difficult subjects, from family, drugs, and prostitution, to music we can celebrate and dance to.

I’d like to put a spotlight on her track, ‘DITR’, which stands for ‘Diamond In The Rough.’ The song starts with the hypnotic lead guitar guiding the listener to verse 1, where Arya Starr sets the mood, “Noticed the stars in the sky were lost. No it's not me. it’s just the place I was born. I thought this world was sane enough. It’s hard being the D I T R”. Followed by the hook, “I disobeyed, I taught you better. My mama yelled, Omomi wa da. Your child is changing. She started drinking. She’s doing drugs now. To end this feeling.” Ayra Starr lyrically paints a picture that many have seen. In this case, she does a phenomenal job at telling a familiar story in a way that allows the listener to digest the reality of the situation.

With ties to Mavin Records and a co-sign from Don Jazzy, Ayra Starr is shooting for the top. Easily on my ones-to-watch list.
