Artist Spotlight: SABRI
One promising singer-songwriter from The Netherlands who goes by the name of SABRI has just released her new EP, Actually, I Can. The project follows on from her single release Broken Promises on 28th October.
SABRI is a completely independent rising talent with Moroccan/Algerian heritage interweaving soulful rich R&B with contemporary pop. Her music has generated a strong local buzz in The Netherlands, clocking up millions of streams, with a bubbling listenership growing outwards into other territories.
Each of the 8 tracks lead on to the next as they explore love, hardship, and the tumultuous twists and turns that relationships relentlessly demand. As a woman entering her 30s, the EP is a reflective piece to symbolise her rise to empowerment, independence, and self-love. She captivates her audience with a raw and pure acoustic modern soul that invites us into her brave new world.
SABRI had an exciting chat with The Pit to tell us more about herself and the EP. You can listen to it here.
What was the inspiration behind the EP?
I wanted to make a project where I was able to tell my story. I’m at a point in life where I embrace all the experience I gained in my twenties. All the hardships, broken hearts, insecurities in regards to life and future plans has now shaped me into the woman I am. Actually, I Can is about self love and self worth.
How would you describe your style?
I like to call it a fusion of old school soul and modern soul.
What do you hope people will take away from the EP?
I hope they can relate and that my journey and story inspires them to reach their goals and dreams.
In such a competitive industry, how do you plan to separate yourself differently from the rest?
By doing what I want to do and to now follow the hype. I make soul music that comes literally from my soul. With that being said it’s almost even impossible to force it into something I’m not. I hope my authenticity will be noticed by others.
What drives you?
Love in general. Love that I have for my family and love that I have for music. The pen is such a powerful tool to speak on certain topics. Besides that it’s also therapeutic ass f*ck! Lol
Are there any people in your life, or artists, that inspire you?
No specific person but I enjoy reading about other people’s journey. From musicians to actors to entrepreneurs. A lot of people have an unique story and I can find beauty in everything.
What’s next?
I will continue putting more music out and I’m in talks of doing more shows in 2023. Hopefully London next ☺
What are your hopes for the future?
To reach as many people as I can with my music and what I love the most is one-on-one interaction with my listeners. I love to receive messages from people that feel inspired or who want to know how I did or do certain things. I would love to get to a point where I can actually help others to achieve what I achieved. So keywords for the future is making music and helping others.
