Africa’s new leading light Ayra Starr cements her place as one of the most essential and enthralling voices in world music with timeless album ’19 & Dangerous’.

The 19 year old superstar has been heralded by NME as ‘leading her generation’s sonic revolution’ and it’s easy to see why; Ayra combines different styles and sounds with distinct sophistication, contributing superlative vocal performances and expressive lyricism throughout her new project. 

A body of work brimming of pedigree, introspection and musical nuance, Ayra brings the influence of Western R&B and trap to her raw, invigorating Afropop, alté sound. Each cut bears fresh new ideas, and no track feels out of place on the cohesive, coherent and conscious project. Whether the anthemic ‘Bloody Samaritan’ or the profound, wistful ballad ‘In Between’, Ayra directs the sonic landscapes and lyrical narratives on an enthralling and encompassing journey with subtle aplomb.

Speaking on the album, Ayra said:

“Every song on the album is iconic because I only want to do iconic things and be nothing less than myself in my career. People have tried to put me in a box because of my age and gender but I insist on breaking the norms and stereotypes.”
