Yellow

Sweets is back with some slick visuals for his sunny, hypnotic new track ‘Yellow’. The emcee based in Manchester shows us his unrivalled potential with his strongest single yet.

Following on from the energetic vibrations of ‘I’m Not Coming Home’ and the hazy sounds of ‘Ashtray Cowboy’, Sweets is yet to miss.

‘Yellow’ shows a more melodic side of Sweets, whilst the lyrical themes explore the conflicting realities of the night before and morning after. The beat switch in the second half of the song is a genuinely fantastic depiction of this contrast of emotions. ‘Being in your mate’s car doesn’t quite bring the good feelings and excitement it did the night before’, Sweets said on the release, a feeling which many of us can definitely relate to.

With his usual laidback flow and husky voice, he slides over the alt-pop/dance influenced instrumental, which once again shows he can dominate any production style. With lyrics like ‘smiling faces of my maties in that all white ford’, it’s the perfect soundtrack to the last of those long summer days and picturesque sunsets, before Autumn arrives.

In a scene filled with gifted rappers and lyricists, Sweets stands out from the bunch with his versatile visuals, which always elevate his tracks to new heights. The video is a perfect representation of the repetition of drinking culture, and the ups and downs of life for young adults living in the city.

Sweets is currently finishing his debut EP, and whilst we know limited details, buzz is quickly building amongst fans. If this track is any indicator of what’s to come from the Newcastle native, we can’t wait to hear more. With live shows and festival appearances approaching, get Sweets on your radar.
