Waved
Jamal Bucanon brings his Leicester swagger to London with his debut single ‘Waved’ - a whimsical yet masculine ode to intoxication. Awash with tight natural drum sounds, reverse swells and delayed chords, it is a clever blend of electronica, jazz and alternative indie.
Inspired by a string of dead end jobs and the ever-present allure of underworld oblivion, lyrically and sonically the track cites influences such as The Streets, Robert Glasper, Kano & Slum Village.
A 2 part saga, the track evolves from merely underpinning the dialogue into an instrumental out groove showcasing a developed and sophisticated production style.
This understated but rich Lo-Fi masterpiece is almost trip-hop/acid jazz but with a leaning towards breakbeat in the drums. The melodic monotone of Jamal’s vocal poetically describes the reasoning behind escapism, you will note towards the second half of the track a reverse viola line that emotionally tints the experience of being high.
‘Waved’ is available now on all streaming platforms.
