Track of the Week: Warm (Remix)

The hottest name in Drill right now, K-Trap, enlists the unmatchable skill, savviness and guise of Skepta to revisit his viral hit Warm, a fiercely charismatic hood anthem.

Gypsy Hill titan Trap is everything that the Drill genre should stand for. Unique in flow and vivid in lyricism, the rapper is a street storyteller who has delivered consistently in quality and quantity. Trap has risen to the precipice of UK rap over the past few years, and recently had his crowning moment; The Last Whip II is one of the broadest, layered and compelling Drill LP’s the UK has ever played witness to. The album sees Trap cementing his name in the history books and playing his part in the salvation of a genre too often plagued by commercialisation and shallowness.

Warm was originally released way back in the spring of 2021, and received a meteoric reception from listeners and critics. This remix upholds the energy, edge and elegance of the original, with Trap’s unconventional flow and daring wordplay remaining just as potent and hard hitting as when first consumed. Skepta, who after a period of musical silence following his apparent retiring from rapping, has reentered the fray with more gusto and purpose than ever, drops one of the verses of the year to compliment the drillistic nuance of Trap. The video plays out like a who’s who of UK Rap with the likes of Blade Brown, Chip and JME pulling up to the shoot to show their support for the movement.

It’s worth the watch for Skeppy’s hat alone.
