Skegee

As he gears up for the release of his next body of work, JID unveils the visuals for his latest single ‘Skegee’. This Christo-produced track is slow-burning as it comes towards the end of Black History Month and is filled with conscious bars as JID recounts the struggles of being black in America.

With the track named after Tuskegee, a city in Alabama where historical events have occurred, each verse is filled with sculpted lyricism that makes each line hit home for the listener. He effortlessly flaunts the talent fans love him for, creating three solid verses that are filled with history and optimism.

Throughout the track, he alludes to powerful black activists and historical figures, including a poem by Tuskegee’s mayor Ronald D Williams and later on visiting his family in the visuals directed by Waboosh. The black and white visuals show JID visiting the locals of Tuskegee and also visiting the HBCU that once recruited him. This is a track that displays the Dreamville signee’s penmanship as well as his inner thoughts speaking to the past and the present.
