Chicago rapper and activist Noname releases ‘Rainforest’, an anti-capitalist anthem for our planet’s prosperity. It’s her first drop since responding to J. Cole in ‘Song 33’ and once again she doesn’t pull any punches.

She addresses problems with modern capitalism and climate change, as they are both inherently racial issues disproportionately affecting minority groups. Noname takes aim at billionaires, colonisers and everyone still making excuses for them.

Produced by The Kount, the track has a slight tropical texture and an upbeat strum keeping the tune constantly rolling. Despite its damning message, ‘Rainforest’ encourages us to dance and remember that our lives are we want them to be. Plus, as you’d expect from the owner of Noname’s Book Club, she pulls on multiple literature references, from Huey P. Newton to Dr. Seuss.
