Exclusive Premiere: Dessireé - Peppermint Tea

‘Peppermint Tea’, the latest track from the up-and-coming neo-soul artist Dessireé, is as relatable as it gets. Her lyrics – sang over smooth chords, laid-back bass notes and off-beat rimshots – are as soothing to hear as they are descriptive. The South-East Londoner paints the perfect picture of how she, and many others, wind down at night after the day is done; “sipping on peppermint tea, feeling lovely”. 

The concept is simple, yet touching. Life is draining. Responsibilities weigh heavy on one’s mind. Everything is tougher than you realised. But when you sit down and sip that late-night peppermint tea, the overwhelming sense of life’s pressures is replaced with relief. Dessireé captures this precise moment of comforting respite excellently and, for two minutes, it feels like all your problems have been lifted off your shoulders.

At 20 years old, the future is bright for Dessireé. As well as writing and producing, she co-heads KAIN, a platform to express black women in society through the use of documentaries, fashion, and music. There is a long way to go, but Dessireé is definitely on the right track.
