Nobody

Shot by Harvey Williams-Fairley

Dabbla and Sumgii started making music together well before Spotify statistics and TikTok trends. The pair, despite playing side-by-side in LDZ and Problem Child (Still A Problem), were yet to drop a complete collaboration project until last year’s ‘Nobody

Out via their shared label Potent Funk Records, Nobody is as crazy as it is cohesive. Now, the imprint has released the album’s insane instrumentals - all produced, mixed and mastered by Sumgii. It might as well be called Sumbody.

Sumgii is a notorious North West London producer, affiliated with the likes of Cult Mountain, SWAMP81, Slimzos and PEWPEW BAUMBAUM. His hands are all over the UK underground music scenes, where his name holds serious weight on stage and in the studio. Plus, the last two years have seen Sumgii single-handedly produce solid albums for both Dead Players MCs, (Dabbla and Jam Baxter).

As diverse as his output is, Nobody possesses a quintessentially Sumgii-sound, with slow, synth-led beats running the show. That being said, he provides heaps of variation over the eleven tracks, including the punkish ‘Enough’ and the thunderous 140 instrumental of ‘Explain’. There’s also the groove-infused live bass on ‘Shimmy’ and the lush but lumbering bassline on the album’s third single, ‘Out My Way’. Equally, let’s not forget about the chilling title track which opens the album up with more power than 50 Cent.

Drops like Nobody make sure of Sumgii’s status as a figurehead in electronic and alt rap production. Grab the instrumentals now on 12" vinyl, digital download and all streamers. Also, both editions of Alex Oddhouse’s trippy artwork are available as signed wall prints from Potent Funk.
