Nobody Knows (Ladas Road)
Loyle Carner, the statesman of British hip-hop with a spoken-word twinge, has released the third single from his upcoming third album, hugo.
Nobody Knows (Ladas Road) sees the return of producers Kwes and Nick Mills, who, having been with Loyle for the long-haul, offer all the icons of a classic Carner cut: splattered drums and resonant keys under a choir of chopped vocal samples. Hence why he caught Madlib’s ear, leading to recent singles Yesterday and Georgetown (Ft. John Agard).
Here, we’re hit with a straight-talking expression of Carner’s struggles in fatherhood, where being a son came with a lifetime of issues itself.
“You can't hate the roots of the tree and not hate the tree / So how can I hate my father without hating me?”
You can’t catch Loyle Carner on his 2023 tour unless you jumped in quick, sorry. So, you might as well pre-order his ten-track album hugo, landing next month.
