Memories

Listening to Bandokay over the years and comparing it to his newest single ‘Memories’, it feels like he’s finally coming into his own with a newfound maturity in his voice.

Memories was created with respect to Bandokay’s late father Mark Duggan who was shot and killed by police. Dropping on his father’s birthday, he raps “police killed my dad though, they still go me mad bro, my little sis still confused where her dad go.” In a show of complete transparency as he shows he still struggles with the grief.

Over a violin synth drill beat, he gives an introspective look into what’s weighing on his mind such as the ghosts of his actions and repercussions he’s facing now but also the consequences of the lifestyle he has chosen for himself. The Broadwater Farm rapper, with potency, also touches on childhood friends incarcerated and the sudden pressure of familial pressure.

The music video, produced by The Teezy creates a personal and emotive narrative as Bandokay drives around Tottenham on the way to visit his father’s grave with his uncle Spangz, before heading to church to say a prayer for his dearly departed.
