You Ain't On The Way

Nottingham is a city we keep hearing more about in the conversation of UK Hip Hop and Grime. From the likes of the city trailblazers Snowy, Uncle Mez and Yung T & Bugsey to new gen flag holders such as Juga-Naught, this small town has been producing big talent consistently over the years. The latest artist to secure his badge of excellence for the city is the multi-talented Kareem Jamal. Kareem goes from being a top photographer and audio engineer to stretching his vocal talents in his new track ‘On The Way’.

The state of the music industry has been a long running talking theme in Hip Hop records - dodgy label deals, artists rivalries and bruised egos all play their vital part in this. Kareem’s debut single touches on this with his braggadocios self-affirmation. Calling out the monotonous output we are consuming on a commercial level, he gives us something fresh by comfortably switching between half-time trap and tongue-twisting grime flows and the vocal inflections peppered throughout the track offer an unworldly element to the already twisted production. This track is a great starting point for Kareem Jamal’s discography, showing off his personality, quirks and talent whilst leaving some tricks up his sleeve for future drops.
