JOYRiDE

Featuring singles, ‘NO !’ and 'WHiTE LiE’, this new project creates a bright world in which to be immersed. Lined with soul, jazz and alternative, hip-hop influence, LOONY establishes her singular sound somewhere in between. With incredibly detailed production bringing her charismatic vocals and unrivalled songwriting - ‘JOYRiDE’ stands apart from the crowd.

From the ‘Prelude’ setting the atmosphere to jump straight into the optimistic energy of ‘iN CODE’, Loony is able to explore a range of feelings within this short EP. Moving onto the rolling instrumental of pre-released single, ‘WHiTE LiE’ her falsetto vocals, propped up by an intriguing use of autotune and delicate-synths.

Bringing us back to Earth, the next track comes in with it’s laid-back, breezy, acoustic-guitar melody brought to life with subtle 808’s and live bass, allowing her vulnerable songwriting to shine through. ‘NO !’, sounding much less alarming than its title, comes in with it’s light-piano before turning into a funk-infused, yet stripped-back track. Although this project moves around various topics and feelings, it maintains it’s hopeful outlook and beauty through well-thought-out simplicity.

Moving towards the end of the project, ‘SUMMERTiME/CiGARETTES’, comes in two parts with LOONY continuing with the simplicity of live instruments layering angelic, guitar runs with her soothing vocals and sloping harmonies to create a reflective, track. The second half of the track brings a slowed-down, lo-fi-inspired section in which she rests a spoken word verse carefully on top of. With its hidden jazz-horns blissfully amongst the background, this track continues to evolve, ending with a voice recording speaking on being visited by the long-lost people in their life, before accordingly moving into the final track ‘GHOSTS’.

Closing out the EP, the finale offers a more indie-inspired sound, still incorporating her alternative-R&B melodies and soulful vocals. The project comes as a perfect introduction to LOONY’s singular sound and puts on a display her ever-evolving versatility.
