Iced Tea
I was already familiar with Potatohead People, having been melted by another of their lyric hooks in previous track ‘Quest for Love’. Latest release ‘Iced Tea’ from ‘Nick & Astro’s Instrumentals, Remixes & B Sides’ doesn’t fail to evoke the same reaction. The sincerity and poetic simplicity from this Canadian duo and the eloquent featured MC and vocalist is totally sublime to me.
Before I dissect the lyric straight off the table, allow me to drop a little knowledge regarding the production talent at play here. Managing to be upbeat without being remotely overbearing, the minimal hi-hat pattern and clap snare skeleton an octating bass groove. Synth swells and cascading melodies preempt an educated guitar part lightly dressed in chorus, a perfect bed for the level perfect vocals.
I know it isn’t cryptic convoluted wordplay, but it’s the way it sits with the rest of the song. I guess it’s about coming out of a long term relationship, those ones where the partner has basically become your conjoined twin. Everything reminds you of them.
All in all, these guys have a set of perfect recipes for great tracks. A definite go-to for your empathy without tears fix.
